Start Up Instructions
1. Everything referenced in these instructions relates to the DVD which you have purchased.
2. Place your DVD into the drive of your computer and leave it there. [Usually Drive D or E]
3. You probably have Acrobat Reader on your computer. If not you must now Install ADOBE ACROBAT READER 7 on your hard drive
There are installers on your DVD ----- for Windows ----- AdbeRdr7o.enu_fulI.exe
----- for Mac ----- MbeRdr70_enu_fuIldmg
4. An ADOBE ACROBAT READER quick start icon will be placed on your desktop.
5. After installation is complete, start up ADOBE ACROBAT READER and select PREFERENCES in the EDIT pull down window menu.
6. Click on SEARCH and check ALWAYS USE ADVANCED SEARCH OPTIONS. Close that window by clicking OK.
7. Now in the FILE pull down window at the top OPEN your Ebook from your DVD.
8. From the top menu bar, select SEARCH (Binocular icon].
9. Go to the LOOK IN: menu of the SEARCH PDF WINDOW [third pulldown item on the search screen].
10. Click on SELECT INDEX
11. Now in the INDEX SELECTION window click on the ADD button.
12. Now in the OPEN INDEX FILE click on INDEX [red magnifying glass icon] on the disc.
13. Click OPEN then OK. [You may have to navigate MY COMPUTER to find the Ebook INDEX on the disc]
14. Your Ebook is now ready for use - Happy Hunting!

Research Session Instructions
1. We recommend that you leave your disc in the drive at all times - unless you need to install other software or use your computer to listen to CD's - That way you are always ready for research fun!
2. Start up ADOBE ACROBAT READER on your computer and OPEN the Ebook or Ebooks which you have on your DVD
3. Now you can either turn pages and move through the book sequentially
5. ---- Or select SEARCH [binocular icon] from the upper menu [Make sure the LOOK IN: option is always set to CURRENTLY SELECTED INDEXES or your searches will be very slow)
6. Type search words or phrases such as [William Mather] [blacksmith] [Davis] [Isle of Mull] into the search input slot for more powerful reading - type only the exact word or words you wish to find.
6. By experimenting with page sizing, magnification or more complex search functions, you will become more confident with the features of ADOBE ACROBAT READER. It is a powerful research tool which will reward you as you learn more about additional elements of the software.
